RWE npower Plans to Build World's Largest Offshore Wind Farm

Britain’s infrastructure planning body has decided to examine an application submitted by RWE npower Renewables to build an offshore windfarm off the east coast of England, reports Reuters.

The UK green energy arm of German utility RWE has proposed to build the 1,200-megawatt (MW) offshore wind farm named Triton Knoll that would be more than three times bigger compared to the world’s largest offshore wind farm opened by rival DONG Energy in Britain earlier this month.

“After careful consideration we have decided that the application submitted by Triton Knoll Offshore Windfarm Ltd met the required tests,” said Ian Gambles, operations director for the Infrastructure Planning Commission, who is in charge of managing applications for large infrastructure projects.

RWE npower Renewables is the sole owner of the project that will incorporate 288 wind turbines.
