Malta Applies for EUR 30 Million Offshore Wind Fund

The consortium, made of representatives from Malta, Scotland, Holland and Switzerland, has recently applied to the European Commission for EUR 30 million deep offshore wind farm fund, announced Resources Minister George Pullicino, according to the Times of Malta.

In 2009, the Maltese government commenced the studies by installing a met mast at Sikka l-Bajda reef, off Mellieħa, which were extended in 2011 for two more years.

The reason for this prolongation is to allow more data to be collected.

The data gathered so far shows the viability of the installation of existing shallow water turbines.
