Narec to Host Breakfast Briefing on Supply Chain Opportunities in North East England

Narec in collaboration with the Sector Skills Council for science, engineering and manufacturing technologies (Semta) and the Manufacturers Advisory Service (MAS) is hosting a breakfast briefing at Caterpillar Ltd on Thursday 29th November.

This event will address opportunities for up-skilling and training requirements for the offshore renewables sector as well as other business support opportunities available through MAS and Semta to SMEs in the region.

The National Renewable Energy Centre, Narec, has secured funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for programmes which will provide training and business support to organisations, located in the North East of England and seeking to enter the offshore renewables industry. This project provides opportunities for SMEs to gain technical knowledge and expertise to meet the requirements of the industry.

Narec is also keen to build-on its relationship with the supply chain and is updating its records of approved suppliers and supply chain companies to add value and support its operations. Narec will be hosting a series of procurement workshops, tailored to particular commodities, as well as developing specific training and awareness packages for the offshore renewables sector. This event will provide further information on how to get involved in these projects.

The Sector Skills Council for science, engineering and manufacturing technologies, Semta, is delivering three programmes to raise skill levels and business performance across the science, engineering and manufacturing technologies supply chain. The programmes aim to improve the productivity and competitiveness of SMEs, supporting employees to attain skills, improve training investment in their existing workforce and increase the number of apprenticeships and STEM graduate opportunities.

The Manufacturing Advisory Service, MAS, provides business and product support for manufacturing companies based in England. They can help develop new product ideas and market opportunities, improve and help growth of business. Many of their services are free and supplemented by appropriate grant funding.
