Tennet Makes Borssele Cable Touchdown

Business & Finance

The Dutch grid operator TenneT has seen the first subsea cable laid for the connection from the Alpha platform to the transformer station in Borssele.

On April 12, Boskalis started to pull in the subsea cable on land and early next day the cable reached the newly-built transformer station.

After that, the cable laying vessel, Giant 7, re-positioned itself in the Honte and started with the most critical part of the installation; crossing the fairway.

Before crossing the shipping channel, shipping traffic to and from the port of Antwerp was blocked until Sunday afternoon.

The crossing went completely according to plan and the traffic started again in the course of the evening, Tennet said in a press release.

Preparations will be made in the coming weeks to also connect the second sea cable for the Borssele Alpha project to the transformer station.
