Cape Sharp Tidal Completes Subsea Cable Link

Cape Sharp Tidal’s marine operations team has connected the turbine cable tail with the 300-meter interconnection cable at the Minas Passage, twenty-four hours after deploying the 2MW instream tidal turbine.

The cable connects the turbines’ power and data systems to an existing 16MW subsea export cable at the Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy (FORCE). This cable is connected to the onshore substation, the company explained.

“Throughout the next few weeks, our commissioning program will test the connection, communications and electrical systems to confirm energy production and communications with our monitoring devices,” the company said.

The subsea cable operation marks an important next step forward toward zero-emissions energy produced in Nova Scotia, the company added.
