ABB Strengthens UK Marine Business with New Appointments

Business & Finance

ABB has appointed Philip Lawson as the UK business leader for marine and ports based out of its Aberdeen office.

Lawson has sales and operations experience in the oil and gas industry having spent over 15 years as a field service manager with other blue chip organisations throughout Europe.

Commenting on his appointment, Lawson, said: “This is a great time to take over the UK marine and ports business as the industry faces its greatest challenges. Over the years ABB has developed a broad range of technologies and services to serve the industry. These offerings enhance our customers’ vessels and fleets with integrated marine solutions for optimal reliability, flexibility and energy efficiency. As a result, our customers enjoy higher profitability.”

Lawson has identified electrical obsolescence as being one of the greatest challenges facing the marine industry: “Business leaders face the dilemma of saving money while trying to maintain a reliable fleet, but this can only be achieved if a robust obsolescence strategy is put in place which all stakeholders support. ABB has developed standard and bespoke solutions to enable fleet managers to extend the life of their ageing vessels while working in a cash-strapped business environment.”

ABB has also appointed Tim Munn as customer support manager for marine. “I have spent the last 20 years in the service sector and I have been a keen supporter of using technology to enhance service processes in order to reduce costs and increase the efficiency of our customers’ assets,” says Munn.
