UK: Port St Mary Commissioners Pursue Tidal Instead of Wind Power

After a presentation on the Rhiannon offshore wind farm, Port St Mary Commissioners supported the development of tidal energy in the area, saying that offshore wind costs too much and is less efficient.

Regarding the presentation on the Rhiannon offshore wind farm, they have agreed that the next stage of its development will interrupt shipping lanes and that the public needs to turn up to the presentations about that stage to show their concern, as Isle of Man Today reports.

“People are concerned about shipping lanes, people went out of their way talking about not interrupting shipping lanes,” Commissioner Alec Merchant is quoted by the news site as saying.

He explained the reason of great support for tidal power: “Wind power is not consistent, tides are and that’s what we have in abundance.”
