Ireland’s Ambassador Visits Carnegie Wave Energy (Australia)

Wave energy developer Carnegie Wave Energy Limited yesterday welcomed His Excellency Mr. Noel White, Ireland’s Ambassador to Australia, to its Fremantle Wave Energy Research Facility.

Carnegie’s Chairman, Grant Mooney, and Project Development Officer, Tim Sawyer, gave His Excellency a tour of the Fremantle facility, including an inspection of the recently deployed commercial CETO unit, and discussed Carnegie’s commercial development activities in Ireland.

Carnegie’s Chairman said: “It was a pleasure to host His Excellency today and have the opportunity to outline Carnegie’s commercial development project in Ireland. We’re pleased no significant issues or objections have been raised and we look forward to securing the Foreshore licence and progressing site and engineering development of the project”.

Carnegie, through its Irish subsidiary CETO Wave Energy Ireland (CWE Ireland), is developing a commercial CETO wave energy project in Ireland. In December 2011, Carnegie applied for a Foreshore Licence to carry out site investigation works for a proposed 5MW CETO commercial demonstration project offshore from County Clare, Ireland.

To support this application, a public consultation exercise was recently carried out seeking the views of all stakeholders on the project and the licence application. Consultation to date has raised no objections or significant issues. Carnegie will continue to work with the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), to further develop the project and encourage the development and introduction of Ocean Energy in Ireland.

Carnegie’s Ireland-based Executive Director Kieran O’Brien and its Chief Technology Officer Jonathan Fievez will be attending and presenting at the 4th International Conference on Ocean Energy (ICOE) from 17 to 19 October 2012 in Dublin, Ireland. The conference brings together international experts and world-leading companies show casing the latest technologies in harnessing renewable energy from the sea.
