MeyGen Submits Final Consent Application for Phase 1 Tidal Energy Project (UK)

MeyGen Ltd. announced the formal submission of consent applications for the MeyGen Phase 1 Tidal Energy Project. The offshore application has been submitted and will be determined by Marine Scotland Licencing Operations Team and the onshore applications are to be determined by The Highland Council.

MeyGen have now spent nearly 4 years collecting and processing technical and environmental data specific to the Inner Sound site, in order to inform themselves and stakeholders how the project proposal may affect the local area. The past year they  concentrated on the Environmental Impact Assessment process and producing the documentation that incorporates and presents this information in a form that can be considered by consenting authorities, stakeholders and the public alike.

The production of this documentation has been co-ordinated internally with the assistance of many highly qualified and respected independent consultants many of which have been local to the Highlands and Islands region. MeyGen have and will continue to consult widely and have ensured that the public and interested parties are fully informed of their plans through their website, meetings, presentations, phone calls and via six open days that have been carried out over the past year in the town of Thurso, and villages of Mey and Canisbay. MeyGen have received highly positive and constructive feedback throughout this consultation, much of which has aided them with the design and technical specifications of the proposal.

The formal consultation period for the offshore component begins on Friday 27th July 2012 and closes on the 7th September 2012.
