Maritime Training Centre Nearing Completion

Six months after the beginning of the construction of the innovative Maritime Training Centre (MTC) in German Enge-Sande municipality, offshore training and development cluster OffTEC held a topping out ceremony on 4 April 2014, after successful completion of the first phase of construction.

Around 200 guests attended the event, including Mayor of Enge-Sande Carsten-Peter Thomsen and the CEO of German Foundation for Offshore Wind Jörg Kuhbier, as well as the engineers who supervised the project, representatives of all construction companies, business partners and friends.

“By August of 2014, a new, ultra-modern maritime training infrastructure will be built here, which is of great importance for the completion of our extensive education and training offering for the offshore wind and the maritime industry,” the Commercial Managing Director of OffTEC Matthias Volmari said. “It is the most outstanding construction project in our company’s history,” Volmari added.

With the construction of the new facility spanning across an area of 25 x 38 meters, scenarios of a mission on high seas could be simulated as realistically as possible.

MTC, which is supplemented by a training tower (construction in April 2014) and an outdoor pool to be built in the second construction phase, will be completed in July 2014. The training operation in the MTC will commence from August 2014.

“Modern facilities and the complex rescue equipment of our training center allow unique and realistic training opportunities under controlled conditions throughout the year,” said the Technical Director at OffTEC Andreas Rauschelbach. “We also offer a variety of training options for the needs of the customer and according to all current standards. These include the Basic Safety Training of the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) and the standard of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (SCTW 95).”
