“Taqa can confirm that a small fire took place on board the Tern Alpha platform at approximately 2 pm on Monday 14th October, which resulted in a member of crew sustaining an arm injury. The fire was quickly extinguished and production on the platform was shut down,” Taqa said in a statement sent to Offshore Energy Today on Tuesday.

According to Taqa, the injured worker was flown by Coastguard to Shetland, where he was admitted to Gilbert Bain Hospital for medical treatment and was subsequently discharged within a few hours.

“All crew on board were accounted for during muster and were stood-down shortly afterward. An investigation is underway, and the relevant authorities have been notified. It is expected that production will be safely resumed today,” Taqa, an energy company based in Abu Dhabi with operations in 11 countries, said.

The Tern Alpha platform is a fixed installation owned and operated by TAQA and is located approximately 317 miles north-east of Aberdeen.

The 1988-built platform serves as a manned drilling and production installation for the Tern field in block 210/25 in the East Shetland Basin of the northern North Sea. It also serves as a production facility for the Hudson, Kestrel, Falcon, and Cladhan fields.

In 2018, Taqa’s oil and gas operations in Europe delivered production of 41,221 boe/d, contributing 33.5% to Taqa’s total oil and gas production.
