Maersk Drilling gets more North Sea work

Danish offshore drilling contractor Maersk Drilling has been awarded more work for one of its jack-up rigs in the Dutch North Sea.

In a social media update on Friday, Maersk Drilling said that Wintershall Noordzee had exercised an option to have the Maersk Resolve drill one additional well at the Sillimanite field.

The rig owner added that an extension has an estimated duration of approx. 100 days and it is expected to start in mid-2020 in continuation of the rig’s current work-scope.

The extension adds an option for a well test, Maersk concluded.

The Maersk Resolve is a 350ft, Gusto-engineered MSC CJ50 rig with design optimization inputs from Maersk Drilling built in 2009.

The rig’s current contract with Wintershall, which includes two one-well options, started in April 2019. Following the expiration of the firm part of the deal in August, the one-well options start from September this year.

The cross-border Sillimanite gas field is situated directly to the north of Wingate field and is currently being brought into production by the company. The Wingate natural gas field belongs to concession block 44/24b and is located east of the British coast off Scarborough.
