PHOTO: Statoil installs first of four Johan Sverdrup topsides

Norwegian oil major Statoil last weekend started the installation of the first topside for the Johan Sverdrup field development offshore Norway.

Statoil on Tuesday shared an image of the operation through its social media channels, showing the Thialf crane vessel, owned by Heerema Marine Contractors, positioning the topside on the previously installed jacket.

The company added that the installation of the riser platform topside, the first of the four topsides on the North Sea development, began during last weekend.

According to Statoil’s previous statements, after the installation of the riser platform topside is complete, the company will begin laying more than 400 kilometers of pipelines and 200 kilometers of power cables.

To remind, the oil giant recently launched a video of the drilling platform jacket installation on the Johan Sverdrup field. This was the second jacket installed on the field.

Topside for the drilling platform is at Aibel’s yard in Haugesund undergoing preparations before it sets sail for the field scheduled for the turn of the month May/June.

The Statoil-operated Johan Sverdrup field will be developed in phases. The first phase involves the establishment of a field center consisting of four platforms, including a utility and living quarters platform, a processing platform, a drilling platform and a riser platform. The platforms will be interlinked by gangways.

Production start-up is scheduled for end 2019 with production capacity estimated at 440,000 barrels of oil per day.

The plan for development and operation (PDO) for phase 2 will be submitted before September 2018. Phase 2 is expected to start up in 2022, with full field production estimated at 660,000 barrels of oil per day.
