GC Rieber: ‘Polar King’ secures more work from Nexans

Business & Finance

Norwegian offshore shipping company GC Rieber Shipping has won a charter extension for the Polar King construction support vessel from the French cable supplier Nexans.

To remind, GC Rieber Shipping secured an initial contract with Nexans for the Polar King back in March 2016. The charter agreement was reached with Nexans Skagerrak, a subsidiary of Nexans Norway.

The initial 8.5-month charter started in January 2017 and contained options for up to 16 months of additional work. The vessel was hired for survey, trenching, and cable laying activities in Norway, the North Sea, and the Mediterranean.

In September 2016, Nexans declared a 13-month extension option effective from September 2017, ensuring vessel employment through September 2018.

GC Rieber said on Monday that the 21-month charter was further extended for an additional 11 months, meaning the vessel would be employed through August 2019.

The company added that the vessel would continue to support the worldwide operations of Nexans.

Christian Berg, CEO of GC Rieber, said: “We are pleased to see that the vessel, crew and our organizational capabilities are recognized by Nexans in a competitive market. We look forward to continuing the good cooperation with them.”
