PHOTO: Vestflanken 2 jacket touches the seabed

Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) has shared a photo via social media on Wednesday showing the Oseberg Vestflanken 2 Unmanned Wellhead Platform (UWP) jacket set down on the seabed offshore Norway.

The image also shows the topside for the UWP platform being installed after the jacket was put into place.

To remind, the sail away ceremony for the topside was held on Sunday, June 25, while the jacket followed the next day.

Statoil awarded Heerema the contract for the engineering, construction, transport, and installation of the platform in February 2016. Fabrication started in June that year, at the Zwijndrecht yard, in the Netherlands.

The topside is 25 meters long and 900 tonnes heavy while the jacket stands at 138 meters with a footprint of 36 x 36 meters, weighing 4,400 tonnes.

Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) was responsible for the transportation and installation using HMC’s SSCV Hermod. The jacket and platform were installed in the Oseberg area in the Norwegian part of the North Sea, about 130 kilometers northwest of Bergen.

On the other side of the border, in the UK part of the North Sea, Statoil installed the first of eight topside modules at the Mariner field on Saturday, July 8.

Seven more modules and a flare will be installed during the construction of the more than 38,000 tonne heavy topside. Mariner, discovered in 1981 some 150 km east of the Shetland Islands, is one of the largest projects currently under development in the UKCS.
