New AHTS joins Vroon fleet

Dutch shipping company Vroon took delivery of its new anchor-handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel the VOS Champion at the end of August in Fujian, China. The vessel left Fujian Southeast Shipyard (FSES) last week at the start of its journey to Thailand.

VOS Champion is a 65m AHTS vessel and one of six such vessels ordered from the shipyard by Vroon.

The VOS Challenge and VOS Champion have already been delivered to Vroon, while the VOS Chance and VOS Character are the remaining two newbuilds for 2016. The VOS Charisma and VOS Charm are expected to be delivered in 2017.

According to Vroon, its Performance and Engineering Department worked together with Khiam Chuan Marine (KCM), the designer of the vessel, to enhance vessel capabilities.

VOS Champion has DP2 capabilities, 39 beds for crew and personnel, improved noise and vibration enhancements, 425m2 clear deck area and anchor-handling and towing winches of 1,500m x 64mm.

It is SPS2008-compliant and comes with super-silent bow thrusters and an optimized hull design for improved fuel efficiency, the company said.

Vroon added that the vessel will be managed by Vroon Offshore Services Singapore.
