Exploration & Production

Russian oil company Rosneft has found a gas condensate discovery at an exploration well located in the Nam Con Son basin, offshore Vietnam.

Rosneft started drilling the well, the company’s first drilling project as an operator in the international waters, in March 2016 with the Hakuryu-5 semi-submersible drilling rig. The rig is owned and operated by Japan Drilling Co. (JDC).

Rosneft said on Thursday, in its operating results report for 2Q 2016, that the drilling operations carried out in the shelf of Vietnam from the Hakuryu-5 drilling rig were completed during the quarter. Drilling operator is RN-Vietnam.

According to the company, the exploration well PLDD discovered Wild Orchid gas condensate field at Block 06.1. The company stated that the volume of reserves and commercial attractiveness of the discovery are yet to be confirmed.

Rosneft also reiterated its statement from March that said the discovery could be developed by subsea completion and then tied-back to the existing Lan Tay platform in Block 06.1. The Lan Tay platform is also operated by RN-Vietnam.
