Perisai delays jack-up rig delivery again

Malaysian drilling contractor Perisai Petroleum has deferred a jack-up rig delivery once again.

The company on Friday said it agreed with the PPL Shipyard to postpone the delivery of the Perisai Pacific 102 until October 31, 2016.

This is a second delay for the Perisai Pacific 102, as the companies had in October 2015 agreed to revise the original delivery date for the Perisai Pacific 102 to March 31,  2016.

Perisai ordered the jack-up rig Perisai Pacific 102 from Sembcorp Marine’s PPL Shipyard in Singapore back in February 2013 at a price of $120 million. The rig was initially scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2015.

Perisai said its directors said that further deferment was in the best interest of the company, seeing that the offshore drilling is currently facing soft market conditions globally.

Furthermore, the shipyard and the driller also agreed to take the opportunity to seek and evaluate any options that may arise until October 31.

The Perisai Pacific 102 drilling rig, of a Pacific Class 400 design, is designed and equipped to drill high pressure and high temperature wells as deep as 30,000 feet.

It is also capable of operating in water depths of up to 400 feet, capable of doing offline activity while drilling, can be jacked-up with full pre-loading tanks and has full service accommodation for 150 personnel.
