Wärtsilä Submits Aquarius UV BWMS for USCG Type Approval

Business & Finance

Technology group Wärtsilä has submitted its Aquarius UV ballast water management system (BWMS) for US Coastguard (USCG) Type Approval.

As informed, the system has completed all the required testing procedures.

This follows the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Type Approval for the Aquarius UV system, which was granted in 2012.

The UV technology utilizes filtration and ultra-violet (UV) irradiation while maintaining a high degree of safety and operability. It ensures compliance with regulations, even with varying levels of water quality, according to Wärtsilä.

The company’s alternative BWMS technology, the Wärtsilä Aquarius EC (Electro-Chlorination), was granted USCG Type Approval in August 2018, and IMO Type Approval in 2013.

Craig Patrick, Sales Director, Ballast Water Management Systems at Wärtsilä, explained that the company can now offer a choice of BWMS technologies having the Aquarius EC system already approved.
