DNV GL to Hold Wind Turbine Tech Course

Human Capital

DNV GL will hold a two-day wind turbine technology course in Bristol, UK, on 28 and 29 October.

The attendees will see the basics of wind energy conversion, the evolution of today’s giant wind turbines and many key decisions about the design concepts explained. During the course, rotor design, direct drive and the increasing diversity of drive train options will be examined. Permanent magnet generators and general electrical design issues will be addressed, as well.

The evolution of larger wind turbines and the challenges of further upscaling, especially in the context of the expanding offshore market, will also be discussed. The design process, the importance of accurate design loads prediction and effective control of the wind turbine will be highlighted and the effect of design options on cost of energy will be illustrated, with future trends reviewed.

The course offers a significant depth of understanding of the technology background, but does not assume any prior knowledge of wind energy, DNV GL explained.
