Business & Finance

Teekay’s first unit for maintenance and safety (UMS), Arendal Spirit, arrived to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on May 2nd on board a heavy-lift vessel.

After a long journey of 38 days from the COSCO shipyard in China, the vessel was anchored and offloaded from the heavylifter in Brazilian waters.

The vessel has been under construction at the COSCO shipyard in China during 2014 and was delivered to Teekay in February 2015.

Arendal Spirit will now undergo an extensive testing program before it goes on hire with Petrobras on a 3-year charter contract.

The vessel’s design is based on Sevan Marine’s cylindrical hull design, featuring stable platform with high uptime and a large storage capacity.

The vessel has 500 beds in 248 cabins with en-suite bathrooms, daylight windows, office areas including television, internet and telephone connections, lounge areas, coffee shop, and a cinema.

The remaining two units are scheduled for delivery by 2017.
