Indonesia: Kamojang Tanker Delivered

Surabaya, PT Pertamina (Persero) continues to strengthen its fleet of ships to support the company’s business. It is reinforce through the delivery of 1 (one) unit of “Kamojang” tanker 6,500 long tons of deadweight (LTDW), completed and built by PT Dok and Shipping Surabaya (Persero), to PT Pertamina (Persero). The delivery ceremony was held in PT Dok and Shipping Surabaya (Persero), Friday.

In addition to handover the ship, also held a keel laying (basic installation of vessel) for the construction of additional of a new 1 (one) tanker unit which is also having 6,500 LTDW of capacity. Construction of new vessels for Pertamina will also be carried out by PT Dok and Shipping Surabaya (Persero). In the same occasion also signed a memorandum of understanding of business cooperation between the two companies.

In the construction of vessels to reinforce the fleet, the company often holds domestic shipyards. It show Pertamina’s commitment to support the growth of domestic shipping industry.

In August 2010, Pertamina has ordered five (5) fleet of tankers to 4 (four) domestic shipyards in the country amounted of US$ 87.38 million to improve reliability in domestic fuel distribution. The five tankers are expected to strengthen the Pertamina’s shipping fleet from April to December 2012.

The five fleet of tankers are two ships with capacity of 17,500 LTDW each, is being built at PT PAL Surabaya, one ship with 6,500 LTDW was built at PT Dok & Shipping Surabaya, two ships of 3,500 LTDW capacity each were making at PT Dumas Tanjung Perak Shipyard Surabaya and PT Daya Radar Utama Lampung.

At this time, Pertamina is operating 190 tankers, including 36 vessels owned by Pertamina, which is used to transport crude oil, refinery products and fuel and LPG carrier vessel. Procurement of a new fleet is part of a big plan for major renovations and additions to the fleet owned by Pertamina. With an increasingly strong owned fleet capacity, it is expected to improve the company performance, especially in the petroleum distribution process, improve transportation efficiency and reduce dependence on chartered vessels.
