NEDO Launches Japan’s First Offshore Wind Map Demo

Authorities & Government

New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation (NEDO) has released a demo version of the first-ever offshore wind map to chart areas suitable for the development of wind farms in waters off Japan.

According to NEDO, the goal of the offshore wind map project is to provide developers with a one-stop-shop for all the information necessary for the planning of wind power projects in Japanese waters.

The map will provide information on water depths, wind and seabed conditions, proximity to ports, as well as on social and environmental impacts of the proposed projects, NEDO said.

The industry players and the public have until 9 May to provide their feedback on the demo version of the offshore wind map.

The final version of the map is expected to be released by the end of 2016.
