Some 14,500 people have applied for 420 job positions advertised so far for Siemens’ Hull wind turbine facilities.

While six new job vacancies for crane operators will be announced this week, the company had already accepted 309 offers, 90% of which are from and around Hull.

“There is lots of excitement surrounding Siemens and everywhere you go, people want to talk about it. I know a lot of people have been waiting for the jobs to come out,” Jason Speedy, manager of Siemens’ wind power factory in Hull, told Hull Daily Mail.

Together with partner Associated British Ports, Siemens is investing GBP 310 million to create wind turbine blade manufacturing, assembly and logistics operations at the redeveloped Hull site. In total, Siemens will employ around 1,000 people at Alexandra Dock, with 800 jobs in the blade factory.

Siemens stressed it was committed to workforce diversity and encouraged female candidates to apply for the jobs.
