Two MC-Class Wide Deck Carriers Join BigLift

Amsterdam-based heavy-lift specialist BigLift Shipping has expanded its fleet with two MC-Class wide deck carriers, BigLift Barentsz and BigLift Baffin.

The transaction was made after BigLift Shipping ended the cooperation with RollDock for the management of MC-Class vessels at the end of 2017.

Since January 1, the two BigLift-owned ships are part of the company’s fleet, growing its heavy transport capabilities.

This week, BigLift Baffin arrived in Singapore to deliver a crane boom and luffing frame for Heerema Marine Contractor’s new ship. This is the first project for the vessel after its transformation into the BigLift colours. Sister vessel BigLift Barentsz’ first voyage in the BigLift livery will start next month with a shipment of container cranes for a Japanese client.

Subsequent to the fleet expansion, Biglift said that it is engaged to further focus on developments in the Renewable and LNG markets. This involves transport of jackets and the new generation monopiles but also of large modules for substantial LNG projects. BigLift is also looking towards opportunities in a rebalancing Oil & Gas segment and at global expanding ports and new port developments.

BigLift Shipping, a member of Spliethoff Group, operates a fleet of 14 heavy lift vessels and two heavy transport vessels. The MC-Class ships increase BigLift’s shipping capabilities for ro-ro cargoes up to about 16,000 mt a piece.
