K Line Adds Another Corona Newbuild

Business & Finance

Japanese shipping company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has added to its fleet Corona Wisdom, an 88,899 dwt coal carrier.

The newbuilding was delivered to K Line by compatriot Shin Kasado Dockyard, part of Imabari Shipbuilding Group, on January 19, 2018.

Featuring a length of 229 meters and a width of 38 meters, the ship belongs to the company’s Corona-series fleet for transport of thermal coal.

The series, which now consists of nineteen carriers, is equipped with wide beam and shallow draft.

K Line’s fleet currently comprises 526 vessels, including containerships, bulkers, tankers and other vessels.

Earlier this week, K Line said that its joint venture with two more Japanese shipping companies Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) received all necessary merger approvals from local competition authorities.

The three companies are integrating their container shipping businesses, including terminal operation businesses outside Japan.
