Zhonggu Shipping Orders Six Boxships from Jinling

Shanghai-based shipping firm Zhonggu Shipping has returned to Jinling Shipyard, a shipbuilding arm of CSC Sinotrans, with an order for six containerships.

On October 30, the parties enter into the shipbuilding agreement, under which Jinling Shipyard will build six 1,900 TEU vessels for the company.

The containerships, which will be of a new Bangkok-type design, are reportedly scheduled to start joining Zhonggu Shipping’s fleet from 2019.

With a length of 172 meters and a width of 27.5 meters, the ships will have a number of energy-saving features.

The order comes after Zhonggu Shipping entered into a shipbuilding deal for four 2,500 TEU boxships with Jinling Shipyard in June 2016.

Under the terms of the contract, the previously ordered vessels were slated to start delivery as of March 2018.

The company has six more 2,500 TEU containerships on order at Shanghai Shipyard, which were set to start joining their owner in the fourth quarter of 2017, data provided by VesslesValue shows.
