Navios Containers Wraps Up Rickmers Fleet Acquisition

Business & Finance

The Marshall Islands-based shipping company Navios Maritime Containers has closed the acquisition of the remaining four containerships previously owned by Rickmers Maritime, completing the takeover of the entire 14-vessel fleet.

As informed, Navios Containers acquired the 14 boxships for a total purchase price of USD 118 million plus certain delivery and other operating costs.

The fleet was partially financed through two loan facilities of USD 61 million in aggregate, including a previously announced USD 40 million facility and a recently completed USD 21 million facility.

In May, Greek shipowner Navios Maritime Partners decided to transfer the fleet acquired from Rickmers Maritime to its affiliate Navios Containers. The purchase of the ships came in the aftermath of the decision of Rickmers Trust Management, the trustee-manager of Rickmers Maritime, to wind up its business.

The vessels in question are MOL Devotion, MOL Destiny, MOL Dominance, MOL Delight, MOL Dedication, Navios Amaranth, Navios Indigo, Navios Vermillion, Navios Verde, Navios Amarillo, Navios Azure, Navios Spring, Navios Summer and Navios Verano.

Following this acquisition, Navios Containers controls a fleet of 14 vessels totaling 57,100 TEU. The current average age of the fleet is 9.7 years.
