Royal Haskoning to Explore Deep Sea Port Potential for Myanmar

Business & Finance

The topic of Myanmar’s port development will be discussed at the 15th ASEAN Ports & Shipping Conference 2017 taking place in Yangon, Myanmar, from July 6 to 7, Royal HaskoningDHV informed.

Jason Chiang, Director of Ocean Shipping Consultants, a company of Royal HaskoningDHV, will be talking on the topic of “Myanmar port development – ‘From river to deep sea'”, providing a review of Myanmar’s port market and an outlook for its future.

“Myanmar is one of the fastest growing areas in South East Asia – and that means that the maritime industry has huge potential for development. The city of Yangon is the key hinterland for the country but is located in-land on the Yangon River, which means that its port is restricted in size,” Chiang commented.

“When we think about the future for this region, it’s very likely that the city will need a larger port. At the conference I will be exploring the various options for a deep sea port, and what that could bring to the region as a whole,” Chiang added.

Established in 1985 as an independent economic consultancy, Ocean Shipping Consultants offers services in the areas of shipping economics and port development.
