Knud E. Hansen, SEDS Partner Up on Passenger Vessel Designs

Danish marine consultancy Knud E. Hansen (KEH) and ship designer Smart Engineering & Design Solutions (India) (SEDS) have teamed up to provide two vessel designs for four passenger ships to be built for India’s Andaman & Nicobar Administration. 

According to KEH, the larger vessel design will feature a length of 157 meters and a width of 21.3 meters.

The larger ships are expected to provide a link between the Indian mainland and the Andaman & Nicobar islands to the east of the subcontinent.

The two larger vessels will each be able to accommodate 1,200 passengers and to carry up to 1,000 tons of mixed cargo.

The smaller vessels are intended for the northern/southern group of the islands and will be deployed in the inter-island service.

With a length of 100 meters and a width of 17.5 meters, the smaller vessels will carry 500 passengers and 150 tons of mixed cargo, KEH said.

The design process has been shared between the two companies, with KEH responsible for forming the initial concept for both vessels.

Both designs will replace existing tonnage, according to the company.

All four vessels are to be built at Cochin Shipyard in India.
