Royal Caribbean Orders 5th Quantum-Class Ship

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has ordered a fifth Quantum-class ship from Meyer Werft in Germany, to be delivered in the fall of 2020.

Based upon current ship orders, Royal Caribbean’s projected capital expenditures for full year 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 are USD 1.6 billion, USD 2.4 billion, USD 0.5 billion, USD 2.5 billion and USD 1.4 billion, respectively. The company added that the expected capacity increases are 5.4%, 6.4%, 3.4%, 3.7% and 6.6%, respectively.

As World Maritime News recently reported, the keel for Royal Caribbean’s fourth cruise ship of the class was laid at STX France shipyard on October 29. The cruise ship, ordered in May, is expected for delivery in 2019.

The company already has two Quantum-class ships in service, Quantum of the Seas, delivered in fall 2014, and Anthem of the Seas, delivered in spring 2015. The third ship of the class, Ovation of the Seas, is currently under construction also at Meyer Werft and is scheduled to join the fleet in spring 2016.

The Quantum-class ships have 168,000 gross tons and feature capacity of 4,200 passengers.
