Business & Finance

China’s Shanhaiguan Shipbuilding Industry signed contracts with companies affiliated with Dalian Port Group to build two 1,100 TEU container ships with options for four more, the shipbuilder’s parent company China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) disclosed on September 18.

The boxships were ordered by Dalian Jifa Ship Management, a joint venture between Dalian Port Group and Dalian Jifa Bohai Rim Container Lines, and Dalian Port Wantong Logistics, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dalian Port Group mainly engaged in domestic shipping.

The 20,000 dwt newbuildings will be 152 meters long, 25 meters wide, with a draft of 9 meters. They will be employed on domestic coastal routes and on the Yangtze River.

The first vessel is expected for delivery in 2016. CSIC did not disclose the value of the contracts.
