Two Dead After Ships Collide in Adriatic

Two men died and four are missing after the Turkish general cargo ship M/V Gokbel collided in poor visibility with the Lady Aziza, the container ship flying under the flag of Belize, one mile from the Italian port of Ravenna, on Sunday, December 28, the Italian authorities reported.

M/V Gokbel, carrying 11 crew members at the time of the accident, sank after the collision. Italian rescuers have managed to locate and save four crew members aboard the Turkish ship.

Fabrizio Matteucci, the Mayor of Ravenna, said that all of the dead and the missing were Turkish men from the Gokbel.

The Gokbel was reportedly leaving the port of Ravenna, and Lady Aziza was entering, when the collision occurred.
