SOHAR, Shipping Agents Talk Final Relocation Preparations

SOHAR Port and Freezone has held a meeting with shipping agents before the relocation of all remaining commercial traffic from Port Sultan Qaboos takes place at the end of this month.

The event was held under the auspices of His Excellency Said bin Hamdoon Al Harthy, Undersecretary General of the Ministry of Transport and Communications for Ports and Maritime Affairs, and provided a platform to discuss the move, which will see SOHAR become the backbone of Oman’s shipping industry.

“The transfer of commercial traffic from Muscat to SOHAR is a significant step in making Oman’s ports more competitive in the region, and will allow Oman to take full advantage of its prime geographic location for international commercial shipping, SOHAR Freezone CEO, Jamal Aziz said. He continued: “we are committed to ensuring that the transition from Muscat is as seamless as possible.”

“Part of that commitment means listening to all the stakeholders involved, including our shipping agents, fully understanding their needs, and using those insights to make informed decisions on how we can best serve the industry,” he added.

His Excellency Said bin Hamdoon Al Harthy deliverd a presentation on the services offered by the recently expanded Oman International Container Terminal, where the status of current operations and future capabilities were outlined to those in attendance.

A group of representatives was formed at the meeting to maintain open and communications between agents and SOHAR as preparations for the move gain pace.
