CBL's New Ferry, the Wabanaki Ready for Delivery

A new 399-passenger ferry, will enter the Casco Bay Lines fleet next week according to Hank Berg, CBL general manager.

The District’s replacement vessel, the M/V Wabanaki, is currently under construction at Blount Boats, Inc. in Warren, Rhode Island. She will replace another Blount built boat: the nearly 40 year old Island Romance.

The twin screw, 399 passenger M/V Wabanaki has an overall length of 110 feet, breadth of 32 feet and is powered by Caterpillar diesel engines. She is very similar in design to the eight year old M/V Aucocisco III. Both vessels were designed by Seaworthy Systems/Rolls Royce.

The M/V Wabanaki’s keel was laid in April of 2011. Construction of the M/V Wabanaki is the result of funding that was secured through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
