Shipping Ministers of Greece and Cyprus Meet in Athens

The Minister of Communications and Works, Mr Tasos Mitsopoulos, during the two-day working visit he is paying to Athens, had separate meetings yesterday with the Minister of Shipping and the Aegean, Mr Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, and the Minister of Development and Competitiveness, Mr Kostis Hatzidakis. Mr Mitsopoulos is accompanied by the Director General of the Ministry of Communications, Mr Alekos Michaelides,

At the meeting with the Minister of Shipping and the Aegean, areas of common interest to the two ministries were discussed, including issues of maritime training, maritime connection between Cyprus and Greece, and the priorities in view of the assumption of the Presidency of the EU Council by Greece. Finally the promotion of a bilateral agreement in the field of search and rescue was agreed.

Furthermore, the convergence of a trilateral meeting in Nicosia between Cyprus – Greece – Malta aiming at developing a common strategy in the areas of shipping was announced.

During the meeting with the Minister of Development, issues of private and public sector, the state of implementation of institutional reforms in Greece and Cyprus and the general economic situation in Cyprus and Greece were discussed.
