SENER Wins Special Jury Prize for Work in Spain

SENER has been awarded the special jury prize given by the magazine Capital in recognition of the work carried out by the engineering firm in the city of Bilbao (north of Spain).

SENER’s President, Jorge Sendagorta, was the person in charge of receiving the award from the hands of the General Manager of Innobasque, José María Villate Blanco, during the ceremony held at the City Hall of Bilbao.

These awards, which recognize the efforts of organizations and institutions in areas as diverse as innovation, sustainability, development or culture, aimed to reward SENER for its “ability to reinvent itself” and for its commitment to “technology risk”, two main features that distinguish many projects in which the company group has been involved, such as the LNG plant Gate terminal in the Netherlands, the Lublin airport in Poland, or the solar thermal plant Gemasolar in Seville (Spain).

SENER is a fully technology-oriented company that conceives innovation as a continuous process of improvement and, therefore, it has always followed a deep-rooted tradition in carrying out engineering projects with a state-of-the-art approach.

Among the group’s latest innovative projects can be highlighted: the high-gain antenna gimbal (HGAG) used in the rover mission to Mars; the development of an aerodynamic sleeper called Aerotraviesa, which reduces the flying ballast phenomenon in high-speed rail traffic; the implementation of improvements in the FORAN System, a CAD/CAM software designed and patented by SENER; or the marketing of the second generation of the cylindrical-parabolic troughs developed by SENER under the brand name SENERtrough®-2 system.

This ability to successfully carry out works with high technological profile has allowed SENER to obtain numerous awards in recent years.

In 2011, the engineering company was awarded the final prize in the category of Innovation at the renowned European Business Awards. That same year, the company won the US CSP Today Award in the category of ‘Engineering Firm of the Year’.

Already in 2012, the engineering company was a finalist in the European Business Awards for the Environment after having obtained, thanks to the Gemasolar plant, the final award in the category of Sustainable Development in the Basque and Spanish sections of these awards. Furthermore, SENER’s founder and honorary president, Enrique de Sendagorta Aramburu, was awarded the Spanish National Prize for Lifetime Innovative Achievements. SENER’s contribution in the regasification Liquefied Natural Gas plant of Gate terminal in the Netherlands was also awarded, on the one hand, with the Project of the Year Prize of the European Construction Institute and, on the other, with the Best LNG Project Prize seized at the European Gas Conference Awards.

Last year, the engineering firm additionally won the Seville CSP Today Award in the category of Best Dispatchability Solution thanks to the Gemasolar plant, the Potencia Award in the Tunnels category in recognition of the Sants Sagrera tunnel project and the Cambio Financiero Award in the category of Research and Development.

Other organizations awarded at the 2012 Bilbao Capital Magazine Awards were: Puerto of Bilbao, Bilbao Ría 2000, Iberdrola, Progenika, Innobasque, Petronor, BBK, and the Guggenheim Museum and Idom, with whom SENER shared the Special Jury Prize.
