First Ice-Proof Offshore Wind Farm Books September Debut

Operations & Maintenance

The 42MW Tahkoluoto wind farm off Pori, Finland will enter commercial operation in September, Jan De Nul, the project’s main contractor for marine construction, said.

Jan De Nul’s heavy-lift jack up Vole au vent installed the last of the ten Siemens 4.2MW wind turbines at the site on Monday, 3 July.

The same vessel installed the ten gravity based foundations in the first half of June.

The turbine installation was originally expected to be completed by mid-July, with the subsea cables scheduled to be installed by the end of this month.

The EUR 120 million Tahkoluoto offshore wind project is being developed by Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy and is the world’s first offshore wind farm designed for icy conditions.
