Turkey: Pendennis Shipyard’s Sailing Catamaran Hemisphere Wins Another Award

Pendennis Shipyard's Sailing Catamaran Hemisphere Wins Another Award

The seventh annual World Superyacht Awards took place on 5 May, 2012 in the magical city of Istanbul, Turkey at the luxurious Çırağan Palace Kempinski. Combining a glittering awards ceremony with a gala dinner and dance, the Awards was attended by an elite guest list of superyacht owners from around the globe and the most influential players in the superyacht industry. At the ceremony, Pendennis Shipyard’s sailing catamaran Hemisphere was awarded a Judges Commendation in the ‘Sailing Yacht 40m+’ category.

This success is testament to the successful collaboration between Pendennis Shipyard, with Van Peteghem Lauriot Prevost as Naval Architects and Interior Design company Michael Leach Design.

With a length overall of 44.2m (145ft) and a gross tonnage of just under 500, Hemisphere is the largest privately owned luxury sailing catamaran in the world today. The structural design and engineering of Hemisphere have pushed the boundaries of classification society rules.

With a draft of just over 3m (9.8ft), Hemisphere ensures ease of manoeuvrability and the scope to cruise shallow draft destinations inaccessible to monohulls of comparable size. Decks and rig are remarkably uncluttered as visible deck hardware has been minimised and the 58m (190ft) high mast soars free of spreaders with all lines run internally. Tenders are also stowed out of sight and the port transom houses a full watersports and dive locker served by a large hydraulic swim platform.
