Greece’s Asso.subsea has taken delivery of the new addition to its fleet, the trenching support vessel (TSV) Arete, previously the inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) vessel Viking Reach.

It was reported in August that Asso.subsea was buying Viking Reach from Eidesvik Reach, in which Eidesvik holds a 50.1% ownership interest and Reach Subsea 49.9%, with plans on renaming it to Arete.

The vessel was delivered to the Greek company yesterday, October 26.

"Named after the revered Queen of the Phaeacians from Greek mythology, a figure synonymous with wisdom, noble leadership, and providing safe harbor, TSV Arete embodies our continued commitment to excellence and reliability in marine operations," Asso.subsea said on social media.

With its high-capacity subsea equipment, 70-ton AHC crane, integrated work-class remotely operated vehicle (WROV) and survey spreads, shallow water capability and extensive deck area, Arete is described as “an extremely flexible asset”, equipped for multi-purpose roles in subsea cable protection, route preparation, post-lay burial, and the offshore wind market.

The vessel, which will hoist the Greek flag, follows the newbuild orders of the TSVs Avra and Andromeda.
