Seaway7 is expected to start installing inter-array cables at the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm site in the UK in the coming days.

According to a recently issued project operation notice from Ørsted, cable-laying vessel (CLV) Seaway Phoenix is loading cable in Eemshaven, the Netherlands, and is planned to arrive at the UK site on October 19. Seaway Moxie will support the work and is currently also in Eemshaven, mobilizing before sailing to the Hornsea 3 site on October 15.

Grand Canyon 3 will start mobilizing from Blyth, the UK, on October 17 for pre-trench survey and trenching operations, and is scheduled to start operations at the site on October 20.

Hornsea 3 is being built some 120 kilometers off the Norfolk coast, where 197 Siemens Gamesa’s 14 MW turbines will be installed.

Seaway7 was contracted for the transport and installation of the inter-array cables at the 2.9 GW offshore wind farm in 2024.

Hellenic Cables and Prysmian Group will supply the cables, while JDR Cable Systems is in charge of array cable testing and termination.

At the Hornsea 3 site, construction is already underway, with the project’s second offshore converter station installed in September, after the installation of the wind farm’s 197 monopile foundations began earlier this year.
