DOF Group, a Norwegian operator and owner of a fleet of advanced vessels for the energy and marine sectors, is tightening its grip on the subsea calendar, as a multimillion-dollar letter of intent sets the stage to keep one of its I-class vessels busy in 2028.

DOF has disclosed the receipt of a letter of intent for what it describes as a "large" contract with a value between $50 and $100 million that will keep one of its I-class vessels busy in H1 2028.

While the shipowner did not disclose any information about the company that sent the LoI or the name of the project its I-class vessel is being booked to work on, the job entails its in-house project management, engineering, procurement, and logistics support services.

This scope of work is the industry standard toolkit for executing complex subsea infrastructure, subsea umbilicals, risers, and flowlines (SURF), or seabed intervention projects.

The full contract award is expected to be confirmed by mid-November 2026. DOF’s I-class fleet includes ships such as Skandi Implementer, Skandi Installer, Skandi Inventor, and Skandi Involver.

These are high-specification subsea construction vessels (CSVs) specifically designed for subsea construction, inspection, maintenance, repair (IMR), and remote-operated vehicle (ROV) services in deepwater depths up to 3,000 meters.

With operators committing to multimillion-dollar subsea scopes years ahead of execution, this trend points to a tightening market where access to high-end assets and integrated engineering teams is getting more competitive.

DOF has been busy securing new assignments lately, as illustrated by the jobs it recently won for two anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) region.
