Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser, a subsidiary of Nel ASA, has signed a contract for 10 MW of alkaline electrolyser equipment for about €5 million with Samsung C&T Corporation Engineering & Construction Group for the latter’s first off-grid green hydrogen production project to be deployed in South Korea.
Nel said that this is a firm purchase order for alkaline stacks and balance-of-stacks (BoS), adding that the electrodes will be produced in the Herøya facility in Norway, the world’s first fully automated electrolyser production line.
Nel’s CEO Håkon Volldal commented: “We are thrilled to have been selected for this pilot project. Samsung C&T is dedicated to learning and developing within the green hydrogen industry, and we look forward to a productive and fruitful collaboration with the company.”
Samsung C&T’s Head of Energy Solution Business Unit Byung Soo Lee stated: “The key to building our energy transition business portfolio is to secure reliable water electrolysis facilities. We are delighted to be able to build a partnership with Nel – a company with remarkable technology and history – through this contract. “

To note, Samsung C&T focuses on global engineering, procurement and construction, and has several green hydrogen agreements.
As for Nel’s endeavours, in the summer of 2023, the company signed a contract for 20 MW of alkaline electrolyser equipment for about €9 million with Hyd’Occ for its project in Port-La-Nouvelle, France, which is expected to be a significant hub for hydrogen flows in the Mediterranean.
Furthermore, in 2023, Nel signed a contract with HH2E for 120 MW of alkaline electrolyser equipment, as well as with Statkraft for 40 MW electrolysers.
