Seabed GeoSolutions, a joint venture between Fugro and CGG, has been awarded a 3D ocean bottom node (OBN) survey over ultra-deepwater field in the Gulf of Mexico.
Fugro said on Thursday that the survey was in a “challenging area” of the Gulf of Mexico and that it was awarded to Seabed GeoSolutions by an undisclosed “major energy company.”
Covering 270 square kilometres and in water depths up to 2,100 meters, the survey will begin in the third quarter of 2019 and take approximately four months to complete.
It will be executed with ocean bottom nodes deployed by remotely operated vehicles and simultaneous source acquisition, with an imaging target that lies beneath an overburden, including complex overhanging salt bodies.
Stephan Midenet , CEO of Seabed Geosolutions, said: “This latest award illustrates the trust operators place in our expertise in providing the highest quality seismic data in the most complex geologic regions of the Gulf of Mexico, where we have built a track record of successful deliveries on difficult acquisitions.”
The company added that this latest award was already included in its backlog at year-end 2018.
