E.ON AG has contracted Vroon’s subsea-support walk-to-work vessel VOS Stone for logistics support and offshore accommodation at the 385MW Arkona offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.

E.ON and Statoil are building the EUR 1.2 billion Arkona wind farm some 35 kilometres northeast of the Rügen Island. E.ON is responsible for the construction and subsequent operation of the wind farm.

The wind farm will comprise 60 Siemens 6MW turbines scheduled for commissioning in 2019.

VOS Stone will commence her charter for E.ON in mid-2018. She is a sister vessel of VOS Start, currently employed at DONG Energy’s Walney Extension offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea.

Both vessels have been purpose built to support offshore operations in the renewable energy industry and walk-to-work projects in the oil & gas industry.

Like her sister, VOS Stone will be fitted with a motion-compensated offshore gangway and a 50T active-heave-compensated crane. She can provide accommodation for 60 client personnel.

Featuring a covered warehouse on the main-deck level, the vessel can perform cargo handling and passenger transfers to and from offshore assets, such as wind turbines, offshore platforms or CTVs (crew-transfer vessels), as well as engage in subsea-support operations, Vroon said.
