Norwegian oil giant Statoil in November 2015 signed a contract with Jacktel, a Master Marine AS subsidiary, for the provision of accommodation services at the giant Johan Sverdrup field, offshore Norway.

It was then agreed that Jacktel’s accommodation rig Haven, to be deployed for the job, would undergo upgrades at a yard in Norway. The contract value was set at $178 million, including the upgrade cost of some $100 million.

However, the terms of the contract have now been changed. The Haven upgrade contract will be carried out by Lamprell in the U.A.E, and according to a statement by Jacktel on Monday, the costs of the upgrade have increased by $17 million.

“The cost increase is largely related to increased dimensions and weight related to legs and suction caissons due to detailed soil assessments. The contract value of the firm period of Jacktel’s contract with Statoil has been revised accordingly, and the increase will be distributed evenly over the firm contract period of 548 days,” Jacktel said.

As a part of the revised contract value, the parties have agreed that Statoil has additional rights to extend the contract, such that Statoil can extend the contract by 3 x 6 months plus 6 x 2 months. Also, Statoil has the option to select the order of the contract extensions to be exercised.

Unce complete, the Haven jack-up accommodation rig will support for the installation and commissioning period for the Johan Sverdrup project phase 1. Included in the accommodation services are bed capacity and catering services for project personnel. The accommodation rig will provide up to 400 beds.
