Jan De Nul‬ Group has just posted on its official facebook page this amazing photo of their Ibn Battuta, one of seven cutter suction dredgers of ‪‎Jan De Nul‬ Group currently working on the ‎New Suez Canal Project‬ in ‪‎Egypt‬.

By the end of this month, 24 vessels of the ‪Challenge Consortium‬ (National Marine Dredging Company, Boskalis, Van Oord and Jan De Nul) will have dredged a total of approximately 200 million m³ of soil, ranging from sand, stiff clay to harder limestone.

The Ibn Battuta was the first dredger to have reached and delivered a stretch of the new waterway to design depths of -24.0 m in this 34.5 km new part of the ‪Suez Canal‬.

She was also the first to have broken the cap of dredging 205,000 m³ per day.

The Ibn Battuta is currently working together with the J.F.J. De Nul, Zheng He and Fernao de Magalhaes, in the tougher and harder sections of the project, where especially the combined cutting and pumping power can benefit the project in the best possible way.
