Minesto bags EUR 13 mln from EU for Deep Green tidal
The European Regional Development Fund has awarded EUR 13 mln to Minesto through the Welsh Government for the commercial roll out of Deep Green tidal power plant. The funding will be used to establish Minesto UK headquarters in North Wales, and for the installation of the first commercial scale 500 kW Deep Green tidal power plant, located in Holyhead Deep, off Holyhead Island in Wales.
Franco-Scottish consortium inks GBP 2.5 mln SEM-REV deal
Consortium consisting of Scottish Hydro Group and French Wenex Equipments has secured GBP 2.5 mln contract for developing wave energy test site off France. The consortium will supply and install the array cable, multi connection hub and interconnection necessary for the deployment of a network of floating and wave energy generating devices. The SEM-REV marine renewables project is located 16 nautical miles off the city of Le Croisic on the French Atlantic coast.
Nova Scotia grants FIT for tidal projects
Nova Scotia’s Utility and Review Board has approved a power purchase agreement for tidal array projects slated for construction in 2015. The power purchase agreement and the developmental feed-in tariffs will be granted for the period of 15 years, and span from 37.5 cents per kW/h to 57.5 cents kW/h for tidal arrays with the capacity larger than 500 kW.
Western France gets marine renewable energies center
A business hub dedicated to marine renewable energies has been launched in the Pays de la Loire, a region in Western France. The newly established West Atlantic Marine Energy Center will aim to make the region an international leader in the marine renewables sector by the year 2020. The overall budget for the West Atlantic Marine Energy Center is estimated to be EUR 100 mln over five years.
