Ocean Renewable Power Company (ORPC), a US-based tidal developer, has founded ORPC Ireland in the North West Ireland.
ORPC will base the newly founded ORPC Ireland at CoLab Business Centre at Letterkenny Institute of Technology.
County Donegal is home to Killybegs fishing port and has 1.134 km long coastline.
Chris Sauer , ORPC President and CEO, said: “County Donegal’s strong maritime heritage, ocean energy resources, and the Port of Killybegs draw striking similarities to Washington County, Maine, home to ORPC’s Maine operations.
“Our partnerships with the communities of County Donegal, the Letterkenny Institute, and all those interested in and currently at work in the maritime industry in Donegal, provide a strong base from which to launch ORPC Ireland projects.”
President of Letterkenny Institute of Technology Paul Hannigan commented: “The new opportunities this will bring to our communities, including our students and academics, port facilities and local contractors are very exciting. We are eager to expand our renewable energy expertise and look forward to contributing to the founding of the marine renewables industry in Donegal with ORPC Ireland.”
Seamus Neely, Chief Executive with Donegal County Council said that ORPC Ireland’s activities, together with project partners and local communities could give an economic boost to Donegal and North West region.
ORPC is working on advancing the commercial development of their proprietary power systems which all use patented core device, the turbine generator unit (TGU) to produce electricity.
