First steel was cut for two self-propelled jack-up units at Eversendai Offshore’s UAE yard, the company today announced.

The 61m x 36m units will have four triangular truss type legs 94.2m in length and will be capable of operating in depths of up to 70m. Four thrusters provide propulsion for transit, station keeping and offshore positioning.

Electrical rack and pinion jacking systems give 2750t preload holding per leg. The jack ups will have a clear deck area of 800m2 with a variable load of 1300t and be equipped with two cranes. The vessels will have the class notation: 1A1 Self Elevating Support unit., E0, DPS2, HELDK, SELF PROPELLED.

Narish Nathan , Chief Executive Officer of Eversendai Offshore, said, “This is a major breakthrough for Eversendai Group with Eversendai Offshore being on course with this first milestone achievement. Our team is looking forward to successfully accomplishing this breakthrough contract within the Group. Engineering works are being carried out in-house, and this is yet another achievement for us as we are the first organisation in the industry within this region to perform detailed design and engineering for self-propelled jack-ups on our own.”

“We have a highly experienced team of engineers who utilise state-of-the-art 3D technology with Aveva Systems from Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams right up to fabrication drawings and CNC programs”.

This is only the beginning

Eversendai Group’s Executive Chairman and Group Managing Director, Tan Sri A K Nathan added, “The self-propelled jack-ups are just the beginning as we also foresee Eversendai playing an active role in the Oil & Gas and marine sectors through our involvement in topside decks, jack-up rigs, rig refurbishment and maintenance, process modules and offshore living quarters, amongst others.

“We are confident of our capabilities and expertise in executing these contracts as more than half of the job scope of these contracts including the hull and jack-up legs, involve structural steel works.”

“We have been in the business of building complex steel structures for over three decades while maintaining a stellar reputation. Huge demand for liftboats

Tan Sri A K Nathan concluded , “We remain committed to making a name for ourselves in this industry and we recognise there is a huge demand for self-propelled jack-ups on a global scale. We will be actively bidding for contracts in the Middle East and Asia and strongly believe that our extensive network and experience will provide us with an edge and help bolster our efforts as we move towards expanding and growing our business regionally and globally.

“We have gone to great lengths to build a capable and experienced team who have constructed self-propelled jack-ups in the past. As a global organisation, we strive to maintain our standards while setting new standards to complement our strategies and initiatives to deliver value creation for all our clients and sustain attractive growth well into the future.”
